NedTrain – DDAR digitizing

NedTrain maintains railroad passengercars and locomotives 24/7 at over 30sites located across the Dutch railroadnetwork. They are responsible for themaintenance of all Dutch rolling stock. In 2008 it was decided that the fifteenyear old interior of the DDAR trainswould have to be refurbished. The firstobstacle for designing a new interiorwas that the drawings of the trainswere only available on microfilm. Before the engineers and designers atNedTrain could work effectively thewhole chassis and body of the trainhad to be rebuild in NedTrain’s nativesoftware: Unigraphics NX3.In a timespan of less then four monthsElsicom rebuilt over 2500 parts and500 (sub)assemblies in NX3. Partsand assemblies were modeled exactlyaccording to NedTrain’s CADinstructions. Conflicting informationon the input drawings was filtered and efficiently communicated with NedTrain. The end result was a uniform assembly of the chassis and body. Consistent in build upand quality… ready to be used by NedTrain’s engineers.
